About Us
Whether you’re placing an order for bison steaks or looking to learn more who we are, we’re glad you’re here.
What we do
We're Mark and Sheryle Dirks. We and our family raise grass-fed bison on our pastures in Roxboro, North Carolina, and provide premium meat to our customers.
What we stand for
Our core values guide everything we do — from how we care for our animals to how we show up at the market. We believe in:
- Producing food that’s natural, nutritious, and genuinely good
- Treating our customers with respect and integrity
- Thoughtfully stewarding the land and the animals
- Advocating for independent farmers and the bison industry

How we got here
We’ve been at the helm of Sunset Ridge Bison Ranch since August 2025, but our roots in farm life go much deeper. Mark grew up in northeast Iowa, Sheryle in eastern Nebraska — in families and communities where chores started before sunrise and often ended after dark.
Our bison journey began in 2015 while raising our sons and working full-time — Mark in business, Sheryle in higher ed. Under the guidance of Jack and Sandy Pleasant, who first brought bison to Sunset Ridge Buffalo Farm in 2001, we learned from their deep experience while raising our own animals on their land.
Now Jack and Sandy operate Sunset Ridge Buffalo Farm to host farm tours, lakeside weddings, and other events, so check out their website to learn more. And our Sunset Ridge - the Bison Ranch, that is - continues the tradition of raising grass-fed bison and providing premium meat to our customers.
So while a few things have changed behind the scenes, Sunset Ridge is still built on good people, hard work, and really great food!
